What Gabriola needs to survive

Two stone-cold facts:

1) To survive, the planet needs humans to actively help instead of harm.

2) Humans need to eat to survive.

The Gabriola Food Hub Veg Box program is our collective attempt to connect those facts and give islanders an option to eat fresh, great tasting food every week: On Fridays, island farmers harvest the very best vegetables grown right here and we select six to eight varieties for the Veg Box. Those veggies and sprouts are then bike-delivered fresh to homes throughout the island, or they can be picked up on Saturdays during market hours.

This model provides island farmers with predictable, weekly revenue to help them plan and make ends meet, but we’re going to prove this year that it can also save you cash: Add up the ferry and gas costs and time spent crossing the moat separating us from other food sources and then think about the trips and costs for getting that food here.
